Tacoma's Fall Colors ~ Wapato Lake
Yet another local park I hadn't visited until last Sunday was Wapato Park [ map ]. We headed there after taking photos on North Union and out at Snake Lake and were treated to more than just some fall color. Aside from the toxic green algae making cool swirls on the surface Wapato Lake itself there were some great examples of color along the edges of the park. Also on the water were plenty of birds including a cormorant, a few ducks, plenty of over [human] fed geese, and even a total tease of a heron. We spent plenty of room on our memory cards on that heron and enjoyed a bit of a chat with some likely frequent visitors of the park who nearly knew these birds on a first-name basis.

Two Koi grand opening celebration
Tacoma's new Japanese fusion cuisine and sushi spot downtown is having its grand opening this Thurs, 10/26. Two Koi will have a ribbon cutting by the Tacoma Chamber around 4pm on the lawn in front of the restaurant with a complimentary saki toast and other tasty food samples. A grand opening/fund raising dinner will be served from 5-10pm and will feature a simple "A, B, or C" menu priced at $10, $15, and $20 respectively. Half the price of every meal will be donated to the Cancer Society who are also neighbors just upstairs from Two Koi. I'll definitely be there after having a great experience when they had their soft opening last month. There's no invitation necessary so come out for some great food, celebrate a new downtown business, and do it all for a good cause.
Can't get to dinner before the Link stops running at 8 o'clock? Park in the nearby convention center lot "C" -- it's free for Two Koi customers!
