Tacoma's Winthrop may become Prium project

The press release went out yesterday and everyone has since pounced. Local developer Prium Companies now has an option to purchase the Winthrop from AF Evans. Sounds like there's good intentions here that may still give us a grand hotel along with commercial space and more condos. The nice thing about having a proven developer potentially take the Winthrop is that they can create new housing for the current tenants. My hope there is that they focus on spreading the replacement affordable housing out a bit rather than relocate everyone into the same development. Sounds like that may be on the table and that no major work will be done on the Winthrop until that new housing can be created.

Good news.

The dream to restore the Winthrop Hotel is closer to realization now than anytime since it was converted over 30 years ago.
