Flying Fish teriyaki and sushi now open

Flying Fish sushi and teriyaki TacomaA new teriyaki place just opened up near the Subway on N. 30th and Pearl and we couldn't be happier considering it's practically in our neighborhood. What's a strip mall without a nail/hair/tanning place and teriyaki? I wager nothing. That's no different in the multitude of such shopping areas between 30th and 21st along Pearl. Fortunately we've so far been blessed with pretty good teriyaki in this particular corner except when the previous restaurant closed. So long as we've lived on this side of town (a year-and-a-half) this one space has now been three, count 'em three teriyaki places. The first two of which were pretty good.

Just noticed the other night that this spot has re-opened again with a new name and, thankfully, a bit of a fresh look. It's now called the Flying Fish Sushi Bar & Grill and I'm crossing my fingers on quality here. I'm sure their teriyaki's good (how can you screw up something that's mostly off-the-shelf flavor?) but what if the sushi is actually tasty? This could be bad for our spending habits. I reserve my judgment for trying it however, given the recent boom in sushi joints, this might just be yet another hook to lure customers in when, for all I know, they may just have sushi shipped in frozen from who-knows-where. If they are trying to present themselves as a real sushi bar, then perhaps they're counting on clientèle that actually know the stuff and wouldn't stick around if it wasn't good.

Well, plenty of speculation but I'll definitely get over there and try it out. You want to try it out? Their hours are Mon-Thurs 11am-9pm, Fri and Sat 11am-10pm, and closed on Sunday. What's your favorite teriyaki place? Mine still stands as A Top Teriyaki out in Parkland kinda' near PLU. Plenty of good memories there...

Ooo, haven't tried those yet Austin. Might have to give them a go. The sushi was pretty good when I tried it so it's definitely going to stay on my list.
