New streetlights on North 30th

Although pitch dark at night it seems work to replace the various cobra-head streetlights along the North 30th Street hill is progressing nicely. They're being replaced with that silver "T" variety that we've seen go in elsewhere around town. Although they didn't receive a rave review, these lamps do have a lower profile than the cobra-head ones that stick far out into the street. The scale is still far above anything human but I sure think they could be far worse. Putting in more decorative lamps would come out of the pockets of residents and I'm just not sure many folks are willing to put that kind of money out on the street like that. My major concern would be, if I were a resident, the lack of any shields to keep the direct light from the new lights shining into my house. Maybe the bulbs are recessed enough to prevent this but that'd be the first thing to be aware of.

They're not switched on just yet, but what do you think of the new lights? How do they light things up over on 21st? Would you pay for decorative lamps in your neighborhood?

A webcam surprise

Not exactly something I want to see on the webcam while I take a look from work.

It was there for at least a few minutes so I certainly hope all our neighbors are alright. Help keep an eye on my lawn, 'hood, and the local weather. Visit our webcams.
