Pots in the Plaza

As KFnet reader Jacob and I'm sure many who've been downtown have noticed, the Plaza now has some new decorations. A handful of planter pots are now scattered through out as a good first shot at making the place more inviting. As Jake noted, the scale is certainly a bit off but it's great to see them trying. Although everything comes down to money, I envision large, circular planters with room for a tree and lower ground cover or annuals ringed with benches for folks to sit to have lunch or whatever. As the so far frigid winter passes it'll be great to see what new events and additions will be made to the Plaza.

Overall, having some plants in the Plaza is nice but the plant I want to see there is a Christmas tree. A really huge one! Anyone know who we'd need to get permission from to put up a tree of our own? We can consider it a "Happy Holidays" from the blogging community to the city.

Photos ~ Morning color and the steaming bay on a frosty day

I sure wish someone would knock down those power lines and that batch of trees that mar any shots I want to take of Mt. Rainier from our 2nd story window! Not really but there was a stunning dawn that made me wish we had a clear view. I suppose, however, I'm not that eager considering the property taxes we'd pay on a "view" home. Nevertheless, perfection isn't always necessary when the point still comes across. One of my favorites sites happened when the sun sat below the horizon this morning and lit up a deck of clouds onto which a shadow of Mt. Rainier and other nearby high points was cast.

I also stopped on the way into work to take some shots of a nearby piece of the new Tacoma Narrows Bridge anchored offshore. Unlike the first batch of bridge decks, this solitary piece is right at the mouth of the Thea Foss Waterway thus making for some decent closer-up views. Also this morning since the temperature hovered in the mid-twenties, water in Commencement Bay was comparatively warm enough for the surface to steam a bit.
