Photos ~ United Methodist goes under the claw
Had a chance to briefly stop by today and see some of the beginnings of United Methodist's demolition. It's a sad site as it is while they tear down the newer section of the church. It'll be far more heart wrenching when they start on the 90 year old portion. I even had a chance to briefly chat with a young couple who were married there last July. Soon, all they will have are their photos and memories of a special place and time in their lives.

It is very sad when historic buildings are knocked down all for the sake of money. There are so few buildings that are built to last anyway; it just doesn't make sense to tear downs the ones that do. If it doesn't function as a church anymore, be creative and turn it into something else: concert hall, recreation centre, luxury apartments, anything! The city should try and find a way to have more say in preserving history properties.

I like the "Dick" photo. Nice cropping! Sort of feels good to stick it to them with a photo.

This is a great victory for the cold steely claws of science... sorry kids, no Christmas miracles, no break-dance competitions will save that church. There is a nice revenge benefit however: the condo they build there will be haunted with angry poltergeist. Dad yells: "You moved the headstones... but you left the bodies didn't you!"
