Tacoma Photo Gang - Warehouse district (update 2)
Went on a photo outing this afternoon with a bunch of folks from the area. We organized online and got together to snap photos of the warehouse district in our beloved Tacoma. We started off at the top of the steps at UWT. We headed from campus on C street a few blocks down enjoying a somewhat seedy part of town few of us would feel comfortable milling about alone. There are some great old buildings around there but certainly not much life. We hooked over to Holgate at S. 24th near a great old power house that now stores Chihuly stuff then on to 25th and into an alley behind a couple buildings near the train tracks. There we were approached by a couple folks that were curious what our group was doing. Turned out they own one of the building there and gave us a look inside and up on their roof. After I had to take off they even showed the rest of the group a vintage car they prided themselves on.
Thanks for a great outing, gang! I look forward to our next shoot. What's with the "Tacoma Photo Gang" name? Dunno, thought we should have some way to identify ourselves and, since we drew a little suspicion in that alley, I think we qualify as a gang.
If anybody in the gang reads this, add the tag "tfg" to your Flickr pics so I can make an easy link over to 'em. Thanks!

Wow nice work everyone.
I saw the whole crew walking through as I was driving home. Looks like there is still a substantial amount of grit left in Tacoma. Yes, that was pretty interesting part of town. A good set for a post WWIII type movie.
Since the pictures are on flickr, you may want to add the tag exit 133 so they come up there as well on their photo roll.

My pics aren't on Flickr but I know others are tagging them as such. There's also a great (and "toyota" filtered) bunch of Tacoma pics over at FeedTacoma.com that most of our gang's shots should show up in.

Had a great time... Creating a new set on my stream for our shoot(s). You missed some history about the building and block plus some stories about the car (and seeing it convert!), but the party busted up at 3pm so other than shots taken of someone's junkmail/Xmas cards on the two block hike back to The Swiss you didn't miss further exploration. That'll happen next trip. :)

I came home and went to sleep... and now I'm at work. I'll have the photos up Sunday some time.

Good to know, Mushroom. I had a great time out there with everyone. My question is, where should our next shoot be?

The next shoot location hasn't been determined, and I'm sure it will get discussion in the Flickr Tacoma group or something. Judging by the amount of talk we generated about the Tideflats, that could be a good target. The date of the next one has been proposed for 2/17 but there hasn't been any feedback on that yet.

I think I can swing Feb. 17 as well. Even got a bloke from work that wants to join our gang.
So where to? Tideflats? Other locale suggestions?

I'm partial to the other end of the downtown -- the near-deadzone around the Marcourt, Elks, Winthrop plus antiqities of St Helens Ave, etc. Also, since it's not yet spring it's a prime time to visit the Ruston waterfront (especially the ASARCO site) without all the competition from the exercise/fun-in-the-sun crowd. Them's two ideers.

I have enjoyed your photo stream. Your composition is good in each one. Very impressive.
Looks like our next time out will be the 17th. We're taking a consensus of time: am/pm and place. Any suggestions?
