A couple downtown streets earn their stripes

After our downtown "Dead Zones" discussion it was a pleasure to see a couple streets near 705 get some much needed attention. 23rd and A Street back behind Melting Pot and that new glass studio now have fresh new lane and parking stripes. [ map ] Doesn't sound like much but the area grows busier with traffic and any lines marking where to drive and/or park were pretty much non-existent. Sometimes it's the little things that can help make an area cleaner and better off. Since I use A and 23rd as a by-pass quite often when a train blocks access to Dock St. this was a welcome change from having to agree with any oncoming traffic about which side of the road is theirs and which is mine.

Cheers to the city on this and let's keep it up in this part of town. Another street that could desperately use a little dab of paint is A Street toward that I-5 north on-ramp between S. 26th and 27th. It's been bad enough that as I drive from 27th away from I-5 people are in the middle of the road because they think the entire thing's an on-ramp and the lack of a clearly defined center line doesn't help.

What area streets do you think should get a fresh coat of paint? Drop your comments below and feel free to email any pics and I'll pass 'em all along to the City.

There pictures are not really in a "dead zone" are they like the brewery district.

Its more like the edge of the reneewal zone.

Nice to see you taking such an endearing look at different out of the way places.

Yea, it's definitely on the fringe. Hoping that fringe creeps further on toward my office near Pac. and 28th.

"Hoping that fringe creeps further on toward my office near Pac. and 28th"

Hang in there Kevin, help is on the way. Once we fill up a couple more spots in a couple more areas on Tacoma, your section is next.

I think there might be a new merchant group in that area trying to form.

"Last summer, Castro and a neighbor were discussing ways to clean up the neighborhood. They decided “the way to do that is to organize the businesses,” Castro said.

The merchants are operating under the name Central Pacific Avenue Business Association, which encompasses the stretch of Pacific Avenue between South 48th and 56th streets."

Ooops. Too far away.

Hopefully the attention given to the Pacific Ave. Sounder track crossing will spur other spruce ups and development. Man we could really use a place to grab some grub other than the Elephant or Jack in the Box. Only saving grace in that area is the Link -- without that food would far more distant.
