Council gets ear full, blocks North Shore development
For now anyway. Sounds like the Tacoma City Council was smashed last night with people from Northeast (wonder if they read Tacoma blogs too?). Sounds like most if not all of the overflow crowd were against development of the North Shore golf course into 840 or so new homes each with their own barking dogs, paved surfaces, and screaming school children.

Although not a golfer myself, should such a 115-acre green space be traded for mindless packing in of yet more shoddy homes? Or does a quality of life that comes with our local green spaces trump "progress"? Let's say 840 families were all waiting to move to Tacoma right now -- where should they find places to live? Where does residential development of this scale make the most sense?

New Narrows Bridge decks now all in place
Sounds like the new Narrow Bridge is now actually a bridge. The last piece of deck was hoisted into place. Plenty more to be done but the hopes are for an Aug. 2007 opening. Congrats to TNC on this milestone now let's light this thing up for all to see!

My big question is, will there be a big ribbon cutting ceremony with the bridge open for visitors to walk from end to end? I know the entire Glen Jackson bridge connecting Portland with Vancouver was completely opened for a time when I was a really little kid. I just think it'd be really special to let the community enjoy it a little before it becomes a necessary part of people's mundane commute.

Beautiful Mt. Rainier
If this photo says nothing else it says we live in a beautiful place. I feel fortunate that at any given time we're treated to some wonderful sights both in and around Tacoma.
Take it in whenever you can, people, and enjoy. Heck, I'm feeling generous enough to link you to a desktop suitable size of that shot. Enjoy!
