Dock St. work begins, free parking goes
Dock street is about to get a bit messier as widening and a bit of a makeover begin. Oh, and don't forget that all that free on-street parking between 11th and 15th Streets is going away. From the City of Tacoma website:
The work consists of grading, pavement removal, permanent asphalt concrete pavement roadway construction, cement concrete curb and gutter installation, cement concrete driveway and sidewalk construction, storm, sanitary sewer and water main installations, streetlight installation, landscaping, utility trench conduits and vault installations.
Sounds like worthy improvements but you notice no mention of further free day parking of any kind being added or replaced -- only limited 2 hour parking. Guess it's either pay at one of the lots on Dock Street or park at the already filled-to-the-brim dome lot, catch a link, and hoof it down the hill.

This is rather timely as well considering [ via Exit133 ] an open forum concerning parking is taking place in the Pantages lobby tonight at 6:30pm.

Volunteer wanted: Landmarks Preservation Commission
Want to have your say with preservation here in Tacoma? The Landmarks Commission is seeking a volunteer who knows what they're doing. From an email:
Professional: Open to individuals with documented professional experience or training related to historic preservation originating from employment or study within a related discipline, who reside or work within the City of Tacoma.
To apply, contact Cindy Leingang, Mayor’s Office, (253) 594-7848, or visit www.cityoftacoma.org/cbcapplication. To ensure consideration, applications are due no later than Feb. 28.
So if you know anything about keeping old buildings around put your experience where your knowledge is. Or something like that. Probably no pay involved (hence the word "volunteer") so you better love this stuff a plenty.

Business Examiner Daily gets RSS
The Business Examiner has joined the ranks other other local
publications that now allow anonymous sampling/obsessing of their content via
RSS. Their "BE Daily" now has feeds for the taking. No full-text
included nor is the content broken down into categories but we'll take
it!
Click the orange "feed" button to see what your browser does with it. Chances are, given that you use something cool like Firefox to browse the web, it'll give you options of what to do with it. If RSS isn't your thing (you can learn about it here -- didn't your mom ever tell you to "look it up!") or you don't know what to do with them to begin with, there's a good ol' fashioned email subscription option available.
Oh, and their business news is pretty good too. ;)
