Red light cameras coming to Tacoma

Red lightAccording to this morning's News Tribune our fair city will soon have eyes where it didn't before. They don't know where or how many just yet but red light cameras will soon be coming to an intersection near you. The City Council gave these cameras the green light and, lucky us, we could see tickets in the mail this summer. Have $101 a pop to spare? Then by all means, keep running red lights.

3/5 - Not a photo you want to be in, TNT

I just saw a report on the news the other day about Auburn's red light cameras and they haven't lowered the number of traffic violators -- just added $160,000 dollars to the city's pocket book. Will the same thing be true here in Tacoma? Maybe this is also an indirect way to encourage taking public transportation?

3/2 - Traffic cameras fail to deter Auburn red-light runners, KOMO

I think my biggest concern will be knowing when the camera takes our picture. Does it do it the instant a light turns red? What's the law there? If I'm already going through a yellow that then turns red, will I get a ticket? If I'm just spacing and accidentally run a red light, should I get a ticket? I ask because we should all be able to know this before an autonomous system begins fining us money. Seems like computer-controlled policing won't have the judgment skills a real, live police officer can. I certainly try not to run red lights but the yellow to red thing happens. Nevertheless, smile!

Winfield's and Twisted Cue opening April 1 (no foolin')

The reported spring re-opening of the former David's on Broadway looks to be moving along nicely. Winfield's and the Twisted Cue Club have a banner up and there's also plenty of hiring going on out there on the Internets. The latest from Winfield's HR person is that the new opening date is April 1st and I've been assured that's no joke. They're still looking for a few cooks so spread the word.  Hopefully they'll get those positions filled and trained so we can all enjoy some higher-end but moderately priced food and a spot or two of billiards. Renovation isn't complete but I'm told is coming along nicely.

Can't wait to have yet another option for great food here in Tacoma.
