Photos ~ First rose of the year

Most of our garden and yard is doing really well. The bamboo is again sprouting many shoots (double the number of just last year!), everything along the side of our house is thriving, and we just planted a bunch of recently purchased native plants out front. Save for the awful grass that makes up our front lawn I'm really happy with how things are looking. Plans are to clear a small patch of grass in the back to make way for a real garden and to re-plant most of the grass in the front while removing two patches to make room for other plantings and landscaping. I'm even somewhat inspired by this article supporting my idea of ditching grass all together.

Our roses are doing fabulous and, just the other night, I picked the first bloom for Sarah and watched it open up yesterday. The entire kitchen smelled of this one solitary rose this morning and looks so good in the sunlight last night that I just had to snap a couple portraits.

How's your garden doing?

Our yard is really coming together! After The Great Yard Leveling Project of 2007, we got new sod rolled out last weekend. Where one there was a pile of sloping rubble, there is now beautiful, level grass. It's a MIRACLE.

Next step is lining the perimeter with planter boxes, and planting bamboo. Could you post some new pictures of yours? I'm curious to see how much growth we can expect a year out.

Our bamboo is also shooting like mad! It's great!
