Farmer's Market today and Artwalk tonight

Despite the fluctuating weather, summer is coming and a good sign of that are all the events that are popping up. Today, you can start by hitting the first downtown Farmer's Market of the season. Followed right after that is a kick-off for the downtown merchant's Go Local campaign. They, like me, know there's plenty to see and do right here in Tacoma and urge you to explore and enjoy.

Tonight is also Third Thursday Artwalk. There's a gallery or two open at Freighthouse along with a cool sounding mosaic demonstration. You can see glassblowing in action at on of the downtown studios. There's always the big three museums who let you in free of charge on these nights. A telling of stories from the flooding of New Orleans in monologue form could be interesting. Sanford & Son has some live music. And yes, don't forget, RR Anderson's solo show over at the Mineral gallery.

As always, you can find out about tons of local events (and add your own!) over at the FeedTacoma calendar. Enjoy!

Sarah and I enjoyed a great night out after work tonight. For Artwalk we got out to the Tacoma Glassblowing Studio, hit happy hour at Two Koi, then over to Mineral for RR Anderson's show. The glassblowing studio is a great setup and had a couple of the resident artists working the kilns. There's a great gallery of work and even info for classes people like you and me can sign up for.

Over at Two Koi we sat at the bar for some happy hour viddles. I ordered a sake-based bloody mary and Sarah got a sake-tini (or two). After we downed some miso soup an order of fresh and tasty gyoza was up then gone. From there it was sushi roll time. I had some great spicy tuna and Sarah her California rolls.

After that, and once we knew the actual street address (thanks Gav!) we stopped by Mineral to see RR Anderson's solo show. His Tacomics looked great on the walls as did his other sketch series. There was some video playing in the window and a clever black globe/guest book. It was fun chatting with Ryan and meeting the gallery owner Lisa and seeing a few red dots on pieces already sold.

Anyone else get out and enjoy tonight's Artwalk or today's Farmer's Market? Do share!
