North Slope board doesn't want steam plant
North Slope Historic District board chairman Mashall McClintock expresses the group's opposition to the proposed MultiCare steam plant adjacent Wright Park in a letter to the editor today. He calls out MultiCare's lack of "civic spirit" in the matter. From the letter:
In the past, Tacoma's businessmen sought to build up their city. Charles Wright donated the land for the park that bears his name. Clinton Ferry donated the statues he purchased in Paris. A.C. Mason built bridges across Garfield, Buckley and Puget gulches and gave them to the city.
Although these businessmen benefited in the long run, several generations have appreciated their gifts and Tacoma values them still. MultiCare demonstrates none of their civic spirit. Rather, its proposal shows its intent to degrade the legacy that Wright and Ferry left to Tacoma.

What do you think? Does a four story building with nine story smokestacks belong adjacent to Wright Park?

Night on the Town tonight
The Downtown Merchant's Group's Night on the Town is tonight with various spots staying open for your shopping enjoyment. Don't worry, there are deals to be had throughout. Namely there's plenty of cheap wine-tastings going on.

Looks like there are some solid $5 deals and some local eateries/drinkeries. It's great with all the constant activity around town that there's now almost too much for any one person to choose from.
