LeMay gets new marketing blood

Received via email:

America's Car Museum welcomes Elisabeth Piper Davidson to the LeMay staff effective July 23, 2007 as Director of Marketing and Communications. Davidson just completed her PhD in Political Science and Public Policy from Claremont Graduate University and brings an abundance of knowledge to the Museum that ranges from the motor sports industry to not-for-profits.

Hopefully Elisabeth will be able to help LeMay's far under-marketed current museum out in Parkland/Spanaway get some exposure. Even though the new museum isn't even under construction yet, I've heard viewing the collection in that old prep academy out there is pretty stunning. It sure would be nice to get that thing going down there in the Dome District though. I think it will be a great addition/attraction for Tacoma.

Also, turns out she'll also be living in Laura Hanan's building downtown. Welcome to the neighborhood!

Report: Improving Downtown Transit and Parking

Exciting stuff received via email:

Today, the Transit and Parking Advisory Committee released a ten-page report, titled Improving Downtown Transit and Parking. The report details a simple strategy to a problem that has generated years of controversy, namely, how to support downtown's perpetual economic health by implementing a seamless, integrated transit and parking system.

The report was endorsed this morning by the Tacoma-Pierce County Chamber; previous endorsements were made by the Downtown Tacoma BIA, the Downtown Merchants Group, and the New Tacoma Neighborhood Council.

No shock that the recommendations include metered parking and removing the off-street parking space quota required for new development. No huge revelations here but it's good to see stakeholders and policymakers sitting down at the same table.
