KFnet household now with little bird
Along with squirrels in the attic, little birds can be quite informative creatures for local bloggers like me. Well, now our household includes such a creature but, I assure you, it wasn't acquired for its tip-generating potential. Last Thursday when I was suppose to be heading out for lunch with my buddy Matt, we happened upon a little blue parakeet in the alley outside my office. The little guy/gal was obviously a domestic pet that I imagine was dumped there. I got a small box from a nearby shop and scooped the bird up and out of harm's way.
So, now what to do? My plans had me going straight from work to that KOMO blogger meet-up and not home right away after work. Well, my heart went out to my new little blue friend so we drove up to a pet store off Pearl, bought a cage and food, then set it all up away from kitty sight in our guest room. Probably starving the parakeet went right for its seed and, now safe and sound, I went about my day. Here's a photo I snapped:

Though I seriously doubt it, if anyone knows anyone else who lost a blue parakeet around SoDo Tacoma, please email me. Otherwise, judging by Sarah's reaction over the phone while on vacation, we'll probably make it a new member of our pet family. From tips on the internets, I think it's a girl so, now we need a name. Any Tacoma-centric (or other, of course) suggestions?

"squirrels in the attic"
I hope you took care of the squirrel issue. They are cute for a bit until you realize the problems they can cause. However, you link to an old post.
Do you stiill have "squirrels in the attic"?

Not literally but they otherwise do still provide anonymous tips to this local blogger upon occasion.

So adorable! Brown/pink cere usually = girl. Also, she looks pretty young. Around six months old with the stripes on her head still over her eyes and the dark irises. As parakeets age their irises darken and their foreheads get more white. Totally depends on the type of parakeet though, so this could vary, and I could be completely and totally wrong! :)
I like the name Sapphire that Momquote suggested.
I would also suggest finding a bird vet to make sure your new little friend is not carrying any sort of mites. Yummy!

You can tell all that from just that photo above ensie? Oh, you're good. Thanks for the info though and we'll certainly have to get her to the vet soon.
The little cutie finally opened up and started chirping a bit today. Funny though, I think she like classical music.

Well, that's what I think I can assess from the photo. I'd love to come over and meet her in person. As you know from the little time we've spent together I'm a bird nerd. I could be totally wrong though.

That's awesome by me, ens. Let's have a game night/bird and kitty meeting sometime soon.
BTW, I think we're going with the lovely "Thea" suggested by tacomachickadee above. It's Tacoma and it makes me think of the waterway downtown -- water's blue, the birds blue. Perfection! Thanks!

I have to admit I'm not much of a bird person but I think this little guy/girl must of had an angel in it's corner when you found it. I can't wait to come over and meet her? I think with your lifestyles little Thea will fit in nicely. Good luck with her.

Thea is very fitting.
Sarah is going to come home and find Frinklin and I there hanging out with you like we've been friends forever and be like, wha...? Who are these people in my house? What happened while I was gone?

Steve: Thanks a bunch. She's a little gem, truly.
ensie: I suppose it's better than me decending into a bachelor-induced chaos of hangovers, distinct lack of one's or five's, and piles and piles of stinky laundry. Well, I guess I haven't avoided that last one anyway... ;)
