TAM spreads the wifi love

I like art and I likes my internet. Now I can get both over at the Tacoma Art Museum! From their press release:

Tacoma Art Museum now provides free Internet (WiFi) access, allowing museum visitors to access the Internet from the museum’s public spaces such as: Untitled Café, the Murray Family Event Space, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation  Art Resource  Center, and the outdoor balcony. By becoming a WiFi Hotspot, Tacoma  Art Museum has created a new means of integrating art and technology for community use.

"In order to achieve our mission of connecting people through art, it is crucial that we continue to advance in line with the ways people communicate and gather information today and into the future," said Tacoma Art Museum Director Stephanie Stebich. "We hope that this new service will make the museum even more accessible to people and will serve as just one more reason to spend time here with us."

Anyone with a wireless-enabled laptop or other device can access the free high-speed broadband Internet provided by the museum. When connecting to the network, users should look for "TAMWIFI." There is no password or any further set-up required once "TAMWIFI" has been located and accessed.

Guess that's one more spot you can add to the ol' map, Mark. Well done, TAM. My question: can it be access outdoors on the nearby steps or even over in the Plaza?

Paint the Funk[oma]

Funkoma Vintage in the Dome District on 26th wants help making a home of their building. They're going to open their facade to anyone who wants to slap some paint on it. Sound boring? Sounds to me like you can do darn near whatever you want. From an email:

Kenny and I have agreed and moaned about the sad state of our building -- it is yukky -- sad, because there is so much goodness inside here at 306 and 308 E. 26th St.

On Friday August 17 from noon-ish to 6ish, we will have exterior paint, brushes and a ladder or 2 available to folks who want to stop by and do a doodle, sign a name, roll out a wall, or add some stylistic color -- to our blank walls.

It's all so very DIY -- and we gotta create the Urban Village we want!

If it rains -- we'll name another day.

First one to scrawl "Constitutions Matter" there wins a heaping bushel of props. They probably don't shine well on any ads though so I guess us local bloggers will have to hold ourselves back from some free ad placement. ;) Seriously though, it sounds like tons of fun. Might have to stop by myself.
