FeedTacoma $75 birthday giveaway
FeedTacoma.com had its first birthday last week and, to celebrate this week, is giving away $75 worth of local gift certificates. You just have to reply to the contest post in the forums and you're entered. The giveaway includes four passes to the local Metro Parks pools, a $25 gift certificate to Galanga Thai, and a $25 gift certificate to Capers new location downtown. Everyone needs to enter before 6pm Friday then a winner will be selected at random.
This is the first contest I've ever held where there's a prize more than, like, a print of one of my photos. It's awesome to see local businesses and organizations willing to give a little in order to help get, to borrow a BIA phrase, feet on the street.
Have fun, good luck, and keep your eyes on FeedTacoma for more fun stuff to come!

Opening night meet-up at The Red Hot
The Red Hot [ map ] opens today and tonight at 6pm we're gonna fill the place up. Now that their menu is posted, I'm pretty stoked. The Chicago sounds pretty deadly but there are other dogs with local names like 6th Ave Strut and the North End Not Dog which is a veggie option. Feeling hungry? Check out this description for the Tideflats:
Our most industrial strength hot dog creation. Two all beef dogs on an open-faced bun, topped with (get ready for this) mustard, ketchup, onions, relish, tomatoes, a pickle spear, sport peppers, jalapenos, cole slaw, sauerkraut, giardiniera, nacho cheese sauce, and our own Red Hot chili sauce. You know you want to.
Dang! Feel free to stop by tonight at 6pm and join a bunch of other locals in helping christen a promising new business.

Photo Safari in the armory, Aug. 28
The last photo safari inside Old City Hall was a great time. Next up is the old National Guard Armory. Check it out:
Join the City of Tacoma and the Tacoma Arts Commission for a special opportunity to photograph inside the National Guard Armory. The National Guard has graciously invited a limited number of photographers to explore the inner depths and outer reaches of the historic National Guard Armory on Tuesday, August 28th from noon to 2 p.m.
Interested photographers MUST sign up ahead of time to attend this event as space is limited. Sign-up for this event is first-come, first-served. Due to limited space, you may only reserve a space for yourself, not a group. All participants must bring a photo ID and sign a release of liability form (will be provided) before entering the building on August 28th. This is a free event. R.S.V.P. by calling 253-591-5560 or e-mailing sstyer@cityoftacoma.org.
Thanks to the City for arranging these fun outings. Can't wait 'til they can get us inside that old Elks building.
