Video ~ Late summer thunderstorm over Tacoma

Last night the earth and sky rumbled over Tacoma. A great thunderstorm and associated squall slammed into us. Sarah and I had fun watching it approach from our upstairs window.

The blob on the radar cruised from Olympia and directly over Tacoma. We saw lightning for a half hour or so before we heard any thunder. Looked like most of it was contained within the clouds. A downpour drenched local streets and, had it arrived five hours earlier, would've put a real damper on our Labor Day BBQ. Though I'm thankful we live in the temperate and often weather calm Pacific Northwest, I long for a few more of these storms a year.

Nice shot Kev! How many did you have to take to get that one? What was the exposure details that you have. Have you gotten your new 17-55 yet?

never mind. I just saw the caption. Video capture. I too long for more storms like this. I want a shot at taking some cool photos of them.

I love thunderstorms and was excited last night. I wish we got a few more thunderstorms in this part of the country. I'll take them over rain any day.

Gav: Yup, cheated by using our webcam and the video on Sarah's point-n-shoot. It would be great to get out to shoot this sort of thing with our SLRs though.

Annie: I swear we use to get more thunderstorms around the PNW. Oh well. Maybe global warming will help us out in that category. ;)

Haha -- I know the feeling Liebrecht. We're pretty wet here on the Northwest coast of the US but rarely get cool thunderstorms like this one.

I missed it, darn it. I love thunderstorms and thought I might catch one while I was in NY. Instead it happened her and my wife told me all about it. Thanks for the video, now I know more of the feeling of it.
