Crown Bar details and facade
Charlie McManus' new spot on Sixth Ave. called Crown Bar has a new facade up where the former Gary's Steakout used to be.
McManus' Primo Grill blog has some deets about what will be on the menu:
Crown Bar will offer a full bar with hand mixed specialty cocktails, and an eclectic affordable wine list of wines by the glass and bottle.
The menu will offer "World Street Food" appetizers including currywurst; quesedillas; and chicken tikka, cajun shrimp, spicy beef and veggie kebabs. We will serve Gerry Stokesberry's organic chicken, buttermilk fried, and Thundering Hooves range fed beef in our burger and bratwurst in addition to trout, scallops and spice rubbed steaks. We will continue to source meats and produce from local farmers Terry Carkner and Cheryl Ouelette
Desserts will be made in house and will be anchored by apple pie and chocolate cake.
Sounds like tasty stuff! They're slated to open in early October. Their hours will from Tuesday through Sunday, opening at 5pm and closing at midnight Tuesday through Thursday, 1am Friday and Saturday, and 11pm Sunday nights.

Goodies from our garden
The last couple of weeks have yielded a bumper crop of tasty, tiny roma tomatoes from our small urban garden. Fresh off the vine they're like candy to me. I love the smell of the entire tomato plant on my hands and arms in the morning before work when I pick what's ripe. My favorite discovery came the other morning when, through the leaves I spied, the following beauty:
Anyone know any good ways to use a squash? We're completely open (a.k.a. aren't normally big on cooking so don't do it very often) to any ideas.
Otherwise, our herbs are doing well, a hothouse tomato plant has some large fruit on it that will hopefully have a chance to ripen, and another tomato plant isn't in such good shape. The fruit on it is browning at the tips and the plant itself is wilting yellow a bit. Won't be a completely bummer if it's lost considering how well everything else has done without even trying. This all does get me excited to plan our garden attack for next year.
