Side-by-side (kinda') with City Council Position #3 Candidates

I only received a response from one City Council position #3 candidate but thought her time deserved to be for a good use. An email was sent to Mr. Warren but no response received.

What is the single biggest challenge facing Tacoma over the next four years?
Voters answers, via door belling, are infrastructure (roads) and crime.  Both need a great deal of attention. Finding the revenue for these two items will be a challenge, but it's do-able.  Another challenge is how to manage the growth process of the neighborhood centers so that we get what we really want.

How do you feel you distinguish yourself from your opponent?
I have years of experience of being an advocate and working on complex community issues that range from assisting seniors and the disabled, working with neighbors on crime issues and addressing housing and civil rights issues. I've worked on the grass roots level, organizational and legislative (local, state and federal) level.  I also have good working relationships with community leaders and endorsements from organizations like the Black Collective.  I also have business knowledge, including budgeting and finance, from running an agency for 12 years.  So, I have experience and am respected as someone that works well with others to bring about change.

Why should people care about the Tacoma City Council and who's elected to it?
People on the City Council are the decision makers for what takes place in our community.  It's important that the citizens elect someone that they feel is approachable and trustworthy.

Do you have a hobby or activity that helps fill any personal downtime?
Ever busy with projects, I love to run, bike and swim (have crazily completed three triathlons as an amateur), costume shows for local theatres and attend live theatre.  With my even busier schedule I treasure hanging out with my family.

What was the last book you read?
The Lemon Tree that chronicles the personal experiences and perspectives of a Jewish woman and Palestinian man in Israel.

Construction fence graffiti clean-up

Saw this poor construction working wasting his time having to cover up graffiti left on a fence surrounding the new UWT building off Pacific.

Construction site graffiti clean-up

Anyone else perceive an overall rise in graffiti around downtown Tacoma lately? I'd far prefer it be more of this variety.
