Pinwheel Herban Cafe Coming Soon to Sixth Ave
A friend pointed me to some activity over at the former Ezell's Chicken over on Sixth Ave. and Fife. Turns out a restaurant and catering business are moving in and look to have some tasty items on the menu. Pinwheel Catering's Herban Cafe [ map ] owners are packing up shop in Sumner and moving to a great spot in Tacoma. Fliers at their doorstep mention a focus on "simple, delicious organic cuisine without pretentiousness" which is always welcome in this town. A glance at their menu shows a great mix of American soul food like red hot honey glazed buffalo wings and pot pie to rich fare like a Mediterrean tapas trio and a rustic white bean and duck stew. I'm looking forward to trying their Pinwheel cobb salad. Here's the description: "Avocado, tomato, apple smoked bacon, egg, cucumbers, duck breast & gorgonzola crumbles. Creamy gorgonzola dressing on the side."
It will be a nice spot slightly removed from the bustle that swirls around Pine St. and could easily spill onto the street with the building's large, mechanic shop like doors. Look forward to an opening sometime early next year. Welcome to Tacoma!

Exciting. Those garage doors have the potential to create a great location.
