Photos ~ First Lunch at Top of Tacoma Cafe

After seeing a post earlier today about the lunchtime opening of the cafe side of Top of Tacoma [ map ] a gaggle of co-workers (a.k.a. local bloggers Cassioposa, Mr. In-Tacoma, Mr. Zastica, and Mr. Izenmania) and I headed up there this noon hour. We were the first customers they had but they were ready to roll. Their two-page menu has plenty to choose from. I went for a panini that combines BBQ sauce, bacon, pepper jack cheese, red and green peppers, and onions. The wife lady choose their three-cheese ravoli. We both really enjoyed our food. The portions are generous and the flavors the same. For both our meals we got out for about $15 with leftovers. I'll let the other guys chime in the comments as to what they had and how they liked it. Overall, I think everyone was happy.

There are a few stools for sitting in the place but the cafe side of things is meant for takeout. There's plenty of room in the adjacent bar so those 21+ can stick around. Thanks to Jamie Kay for the tasty eats and I definitely think they'll do well. Congrats on your first day guys and here's to many more [days]!

Definitely delicious. As can be seen, I had the roast beef, featuring havarti, caramelized onions and horseradish, with a side of au jus. The onions and horseradish really made it... I've always enjoyed the french dip in concept, but generally find them a bit bland. The extra zing from the horseradish is what all other french dips have been missing.

My one complaint: the size of the au jus cup. It was a perfectly reasonable amount for a sandwich, but put into one of their soup cups, which means it only came up about halfway in the slightly-too-narrow-for-the-wide-bit-of-the-sammich cup, which makes the dipping awkward. Problem is that the solutions are either to fill up the cup the whole way (far more than you could possibly need) or order smaller cups just for that (which I suspect is not cost effective, or they would have done it).

Dude! I can't see the menu clearly, but if it had veggie options, give me a heads-up before you go next time:)

Dave's Gourmet Grilled Cheese (w/ tomatoes) was vegetarian. I'm sure there are others. Along with the pastas, of course, which can be had in marinara, creamy pesto or meat sauce versions. And a variety of salads.

My cheesy panini was very awesome, and when combined with the tasty tomato basil soup, was a very tasty and fulfilling lunch. Plus, I was the first official customer. Yay me!
