Photos ~ Chambers Creek Wanderings
After some yard work and lunch yesterday I met with with a former co-worker buddy Scott to do some photoging. He lives in DuPont so I thought the Chambers Creek Foundation property would make a nice in between area to relax, wander, chat, and take some pictures. We met near the locks on Chambers Creek where the tide was high so there wasn't much to see or access to be had onto the tideflats there. Instead we wandered up the canyon trail a bit where plenty of folks could be found playing in the creek either doing nothing much or skimboarding. After we emerged we skipped a few rocks near the fish ladder then headed up the hill to near the county environmental building. Though we caught a nice view of Mt. Rainier and wandered to overlook the golf course we didn't take on hiking down through the property near there.
It was already 5 o'clock or so and Scott decided to head home which I also thought I should probably do. But the allure of the now open central meadow and it's available parking pulled me in. I motored down there on Vespa-back and, as I started my decent, was blown away at the vista. A massive expanse of Puget Sound filled my entire view since I had no car around me to block the scene. Just the fact that I was moving with this kind of view felt as though I was flying. Once at the bottom I took a stroll around the central meadow and found myself completely mesmerized by the huge "swingset" and other leftover structures, artifacts really, from the former mining operations there.
Anyway, if you've never been out to the area I recommend stopping by especially as September gives us a lingering dash of Summer weather. Never been out to Chambers Creek? Here are the easiest directions I know how to give: Take 56th Street from where ever you are in the area west, when it ends, take a left at the roundabout and look right. That's all Chambers Creek property. Enjoy!

Can you drive down to the meadow now? Or only on a Vespa? We've only done it by hauling everybody up and down the hill and that makes it a major expedition.

Nice pictures. I really enjoy Chambers Bay--great walk, and now even longer with the addition of the meadows.
There is a place for cars to park near the lower meadow. However, there is fence surrounding a lot of it (thought not all of it--cars can go in and out). I saw some golfers take off from this lot last time I was there, so I don't know if it's only for them, or if anyone can use it.
The meadows are great, though. I'm looking forward to playing aerobee there.

@Jen: The road was open and there was plenty of parking for all vehicles down there.
@Chris: Did someone say Aerobee? I've played with those ever since I was a kid. Far superior to any ol' frisbee but ya gotta have space. Let me know when/if you plan to head there for some disk throwing goodness.
