Photos ~ Frost Park Retrospective Show

I procrastinated and prepped all day but round about 6pm I finished up the last of it and headed to the show. Frost Park artists converged on Herban Cafe about that time and took in walls of work from everyone. I hung 5 large prints and brought 2 photos albums of shots chosen from among 3,000+ taken since we started visiting and chalking at the small space in the heart of downtown Tacoma.

Music played, food kept coming out of the kitchen, and everyone talked and mingled as if it were a big family reunion. My buddy Bobby came from Seattle to crash at my place while down to see his cousin play soccer at PLU and UPS. I invited him to the show but realize that I hadn't prefaced it with anything like, "but this isn't a snooty, art crowd at all. They're like family!"

Which we truly are. A quote I posted for the occasion was, "Spending time in Frost Park chalking or talking proves to me that Tacoma truly is what we make of it." And I believe that. There are amazing people and amazing ways to enjoy yourself here in the City of Destiny and getting to know an be allowed a peek into such an amazing group of artists as they work is one-of-a-kind.

Thanks to everyone that puts their energy into Frost Park Chalk Offs every week and here's to a heck of a finale this Friday at noon!

The theme of the evening's photos appears to have been "orange," as the interiors of both Herban and the Mandolin tinge everything a little in that direction. Guess it fits with the season, though.
