Bamboo showing signs of life

Not that they looked dead or anything. All the bamboo we recently planted appears to be alive and kicking especially since Sarah's discovery today. While working from home I gave her a buzz to check in. She was outside checking on her little green house and I jokingly asked (like I always do), "Is the bamboo still alive?"

She walked over to check on its progress and, to her surprise, she saw some! At least two shoots were poking up above the soil that will become stalks reaching 15'-20' into the sky. I gave her crap about making it up but saw for myself once I got home. Also, a slight space/gap in the soil near one of the plants revealed a possible rhizome creeping to help hopefully fill the area with yet more shoots.

It's an exciting day for us since, in the past, we've lost plants for one reason or another (stupid arborvitae!) and at the price these things cost we certainly don't want a repeat. Stay tuned for more updates as we watch or bamboo grow!

Update (2006-05-17 @ 7:27am)
I found a third shoot coming up and also snagged some photos of all of them -- even a couple with my lens cap for scale.
