Bank of Tacoma lights up in downtown
Seems like the neon sign delivery guy was awfully busy in downtown Tacoma today. The neon over at the tanning place is up and there's a new sign lending a little light/life to the corner of A St. and 11th. The Bank of Tacoma is a forthcoming institution meant to serve local businesses hungry for community bank service.
More forthcoming bank info in the Puget Sound Business Journal here and here.
According to the articles, these are the first new local banks to set up shop here in more than a decade. Columbia Bank was the last and they hit the banking scene in 1993.
I wonder if neon is the new trend in downtown signage? I suppose we could instead be getting tons of those super tall tribal billboards. That would suck. Sorry Milton and Puyallup. I'll take a couple tasteful signs over those monstrosities any day.
Thanks for the phone pic, Erik!

The bank sign went up around a week ago, if I'm remembering correctly. It's got sort of a "classic" neon look going for it. I like it...

I actually think the neon signs look nice and fit in pretty well downtown. Apparently, Tacoma used to have a number of them downtown.
Nice to see the first floor of the Labor Ready building get filled up.
Oh, yes, for the picture : It was shot on a Verizon Samsung phone with maximum zoom at 640 x 480 resolution. Total memory taken: 76 kb.

So are they open for business? Looked like they might be after driving by last night.

"So are they open for business?"
Yes, they are open. There is a new bank that quietly went in where Morpho was located adjacent to the Tacoma Financial Center as well.
Nice. More office people that can now shop on Pacific Avenue. The street level vacancy has just been reduced by a couple of notches. ("Ok everyone, you can come back to downtown Tacoma now....its safe..)
I actually looked at the first floor to rent years ago when it was ripped up. There was a big Weyerhaeuser mosaic on the floor at the entrance that was king of cool. Looks like they covered it up or removed it.
