Beware basement Duran Duran shrines

It's pretty evident around here that I like to takes me some pictures. There are, however, always interesting photos out there in the Internets that I could only dream of having the chance to snap. Case in point: while browsing Tacoma-tagged Flickr photos I came across this set of shots taken by someone remodeling a basement.

Duran Duran basement shrineThe photos may not be spectacular but the subject is pretty darn funny. A discovered 1980s shrine to Duran Duran. Reminds me of a note I slipped behind a piece of floor moulding at our house in Hazel Dell. It was my little version of a time capsule talking about life round about the second grade. I thought that someday someone working on that house might find my little note and make tons of money because I signed it and by the time they found it I'd totally be famous and it'd be worth something.

Yeah, anyway, hidden treasures are always fun and what's even better is that this bloke took photos of it. I'm so that way. Always trying to document little snippets of my life so once I'm all old and forgetful, I'll have something to refer back to.

FeedTacoma now with photosOh, and if you haven't already, I added a new feature to FeedTacoma that shows collections of Tacoma-tagged photos from Flickr! Best thing is you can get your photos on FeedTacoma by uploading them to Flickr and tagging them with the word "Tacoma".

Let me know what you think especially since this is the first new feature of many that I hope to continue to add.

That has got to be the most incredible basement find EVER!

You're just saying that 'cause I know you had a New Kids on the Block shine just like this when you were in elementary school -- didn't you? ;)

I had posters of the space shuttle and planets. Truly destined to be a nerd.

Super cool. I like the new Flickr photos feature. Just noticed it last night. Nice work on the above infographic as well. Classy. ;)

Thanks spark! Looking forward to seeing some of your work show up on FeedTacoma. Yeah, those are my mad Photoshop skillz at work, yo. Cheers!

When my mother was cleaning out her basement, she found a shoebox time capsule that I made in 1988, still taped shut. She mailed it to me...I don't remember what's in it, but I'm keeping that promise to myself not to open it until 2008. :)

Elaine: How very cool. My wife and I may just have to make one. We could stuff it in some spider-owned corner of our garage where we're sure to forget about it.

Makes me wonder what kind of time capsules exist around Tacoma yet to be opened? Or when, for that matter, the last one was created.

I remember reading about this time capsule found on the UPS campus last year.

One of the sculptures at Pt. Defiance Zoo has a time capsule inside or under it. It's the large sculpture with the family I think. I remember kids all over Tacoma had to add something to it when I was in elementary school.
