Beautiful Mt. Rainier

If this photo says nothing else it says we live in a beautiful place. I feel fortunate that at any given time we're treated to some wonderful sights both in and around Tacoma.

Colorful Mt. Rainier

Take it in whenever you can, people, and enjoy. Heck, I'm feeling generous enough to link you to a desktop suitable size of that shot. Enjoy!

Awe-inspiring lighting.

Flickr user Tacoma Visitor Bureau contacted me yesterday to respond to some things I'd said about 'Grit City'. Didn't ask if they could use any of my photos, but expressed that they like some of my old buildings' writing (Ghost Writing set) pixtures and would like to figure how they could incorporate them into their site.

Awesome shot, my friend. Out of curiosity, what length of lens (35mm equivalent) did you use? The mountain looks enormous, so I'd assume you were zoomed in quite a ways.

That's no cropped shot -- I was at 300mm equiv (200mm lens with a 1.6x multiplier due to the camera's CCD size) to get that shot. It's not the sharpest lens but the raw power is pretty impressive.

I'm a huge fan of the scale with the houses in the foreground.

Thanks for the new desktop background, Kevin. Our views of St. Helens and Hood have been equally magnificent.

Thanks for the new desktop pic. I searched specifically for a beautiful mountain in my own backyard that I could look at periodically during the work day. Great pic!

Years ago, I was transfered by a company from Chicago to Seattle. All I'd ever heard about Seattle was that it rained all the time, a popular eastern myth. I flew into SeaTac at night and the next morning I drove out to Issaquah. Something equivalent to your photograph of Mount Rainier - with the snowfields glowing red - was the first image I ever saw in Washington. It was my hope searching for Mt. Rainier that someone would capture that amazing sight. You have done so beautifully. Thanks for the memory.
