Best sledding hills in Tacoma?

Snowy Tacoma neighborhoodWith all the snow outside our windows this early in the season it makes me think we'll have more to come. With today's conditions and any snow to come, where are the best sledding hills in and around Tacoma?

When we rented a house just of Division we hoofed it over to Wright Park a couple years ago and had a blast with what I thought had to be half the city! There were steep hills for the thrill-seeking and lesser ones for the kiddies. We had a good enough time that we even completely broke one of our plastic sleds.

I've even thought a street like Carr with it's unreasonable hill down to Old Town would be fun but there'd have to be enough snow for the road to be completely impassable and safe from cars.

Where else would you go or take your kids sledding around here?

We used to sled down Carr street when the roads were closed and it was fun in a dangerous sort of way.

If you want to go the safe route with smaller kids then the bowl at Pt. Defiance is a good choice.

A great unkown sled hill is the one nicknamed Candy Cane Lane. It's on 11th behind the K-Mart and has a great steep hill of a road that can often coat with ice due to the road underneath and give you that extra boost of speed as you go down. Additionally it's not a through road so the only traffic you have to worry about are those that live there.

Dave: I always forget about those hills over at Point Defiance. I bet they're great!

Jeff: Thats a good thought, too. All you need is one lookout to avoid cars.

Man I wish I didn't have adult responsibilities like work today else I'd be out snapping pics at some of these spots!

Ooo, is that the one that leads down to Portland Ave and is wicked steep? A while ago we looked at a rental place perched right there and it was crazy! Took a tilted photo of my buddy with the road horizontal and him and the nearby houses all crooked.
