Calling in sick
I left for work this morning as usual. I strapped on my new sandals and departed our humble dwelling for the PLU campus. From Sarah's window I noticed a devience in the parallel pattern of her blinds. It was Sarah watching me leave probably for no reason other than it's just another chance to see her significant other. I know 'cause I've done that when she leaves for work. Anyway, there is a point to all this.
Around noon I headed back home for lunch and was surprised to find Sarah's car still parked beside mine. This was unexpected because she was suppose to leave for work by sometime earlier this morning. I just assumed that she had carpooled with Kristin because their work schedules uncharacteristically lined up. That wasn't the case. Sarah lay on her bed in a miserable, sickly heap. She told me of multiple trips to visit her friend RALPH and how she was hungry but afraid to eat anything. Since I was there for food, I convinced her to try to keep something down in hopes of bringing her strength back up. We both feasted on PB&J and crackers and sipped our favorite Safeway Select (a.k.a. cheap) sodas. She got better throughout the day and was going strong by the time I picked her up after class. I don't like to see my 'Iwa Keli'i under the weather.
In preparation for an interview for the position of staff web developer (or whatever the real title is) at PLU, I've cleaned up my resumé and added a porfolio of my web/graphical design work. I'm pretty proud of my employment and work history up to this point and I only hope that the commitee interviewing me can see that as well. As for the possibility of becoming a full-time staff member at PLU, I'm ready. I think the slowed pace of my classes can only increase my potential there. The addition of a real-life paycheck would be fantastic as would be the responsibilities of not being a dependant anymore. There be a lot more to think about in my life but I think I'll finally feel as though my life in the real world has really begun.
