Calm first, storm later
Today was a nominal day in which I choose a few more asteroids for the list, wrote a few letters that needed to be sent (mainly for money) and helped Dr. Leake try to focus the spectroscopes. As evening turned to night, Dr. Leake and Erika took me on a tour of the cosmos. No the skies haven't cleared yet (and people here think the Northwest's grey?). VSU's planetarium just got its main lamp replaced. So, when none of the rest of our crew showed up to lend a focusing hand tonight, the women let the heavens out in full force on the planetarium dome. It was really lovely and serene. Dr. Leake also told me that she'll teach me how to run the planetarium when we get back from AZ — you know, in the spare time [that I can't even believe will exist because we'll have to reduce data and I have to write a paper, make a poster, and prepare a talk].

Now that the list is nearly complete and the ephemeris and finder chart is nearly complete, we have only to prepare and catalog our equipment and set our ininerary. Today also marked the arrival of the new 8-meg chip (it's yellow) for my digital camera, thus tripling the amount of storage I have at my digital photo taking fingertips.
That's the calm, the storm (we hope) will be at a minimum. We safely have a total of four people driving out to Kitt Peak and we know folks along the way. I really can't wait for both the trip out and our time there. Let's just hope against the [literal and figurative] storm for the time being. Few incidents and even fewer clouds will be a great blessing to these astronomers.
