Another candidate house

After a slightly early departure from work this afternoon we joined our Realtor to look at a few more houses here on the North End of Tacoma. The first was a gem and seriously considering putting out and offer for it. The place is in the North End of town like we desire but is further towards Point Defiance than anything we've been look at thus far. It's kinda' near the Proctor area where there's plenty of good restaurants and some shopping. The neighborhood is good with a seeming mix of probably some older folks and a few families. The street is pretty wide with sidewalks and plenty of room for curb side parking. The house itself isn't all that impressive looking from the outside. Kinda' looks small.

Once inside the space available is generous. The living room is the first thing in the house that nearly seamlessly leads into a long, galley-type kitchen. The appliances in here are pretty old but I'm sure we could work something into the initial home loan to take care of that. Also in the kitchen is a pantry where a washer and drier would go. The master bedroom is also on the first floor and has a sizable walk-in closet that reveals the hardwood floors that lie underneath carpet throughout the house. Upstairs are two more good sized rooms and a hallway storage closet as well as some attic storage.

Outside behind the house is a covered patio that leads to a large, two-car carport with some shelving and such for storage. There's also a one-car garage and an area to the side of that for yet more storage or garbage and recycling bins. The yard is pretty small but looks great and there may even be a sprinkler system already installed. The simple chain link fence has a cement curb that forms the base and lines most of the yard actually giving it a nicely defined edge.

I think the consensus is that we're going to go for it since the location is good, the house is in fine shape, has the space we need, and it's tens of thousands cheaper than the other house we bid on last week. We'll keep you posted!

Update - Offer's in (2005-03-17 @ 7:25am)
Late yesterday afternoon we got an offer put together with our Realtor and faxed it off to the selling agent. We feel so good about this place and hope for a speedy and weird owner-free experience this time around. The combination of the listing having no photo of the house and a perspective family member buyer's financing never coming together has put us first on the offer list for this place. Hopefully we'll hear back today and, if they accept, can move on to getting house insurance lined up, the home inspection scheduled, a quote on having the hardwood floors exposed, and shop for some appliances we'll be well on our way to an April 15 closing date. Wish us luck!

Your potential home has a retractable ceiling lamp, yes. But does it have faux brick? Huh? Touche!

Seriously though, looks like a find. Kelly might be willing to throw some native-plant landscaping advice your way if you ask nicely. That ought to pull the eye away from the petite front of the house and onto the freshly planted gooseberries. Hotness!

I'm definitely still up for the painting party... You call, I drive long ways. Good luck!

I like it. Good price for that area. Reminds me of an apartment layout that I had previously. I was comfortable there. I'm sure you'll be comfortable in this house that you so wonderfully picked out.

I like it too. The rooms look fairly large so there would be a lot you could do with them and wood floors are key.

Yes, the retractable light is one of the key selling points to Twixters like us. (I can't believe I just used that term.) I'm loving the angular storage nook and big kitchen.

If you have a painting party, can I come? Or maybe we know enough people we could set up a rotating home improvement crew? New homeowners first, of course :)

A rotating home improvement crew sounds great to me! If we get this place, Sarah and I will be making a list of things to do and it'd be great to pick one or two and have a group attack it reality tv-style.

By the way, here's the not-so-flattering Wikipedia description for "twixter": http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twixter

Ha--I've never heard that definition. I hope I didn't offend any of your mature, responsible readers! I just thought we were too young to be Gen-Xers (my aunt, who was "TOTALLY 80's" is a proud member of Generation X) but the definition god wikipedia says we qualify. Whee! :)
