Cell phone no-no
Today I committed a minor sin against myself. When answering nature's call I answered another call. One from my cell phone. Ever since my buddy Micah took calls on the cordless phone in the bathroom of our college rental house I took a silent, internal vow never to do such a thing myself. I broke that vow today at work when I took a call I knew to be from Sarah while away from my desk in a "private office". To be fair, I knew it was Sarah because she IM'd me right before I stood up to leave my desk. I was experiencing a particularly packed day solid with programming something a client wanted ASAP. Knowing I had plenty to do she was probing me for lunch plans and the time had come to make a decision whether or not to join her and some of her co-workers. I'd made my decision when the IM came to my screen but my bladder was full of my morning water and I couldn't wait any longer. The minute I began doing my business a buzz came from my pocket and was Sarah calling to get my final answer. I took to call and quietly informed her I needed to stay at my desk to finish up some work.
I don't anticipate this becoming a growing trend because it just seems gross. If I have to wash my hands after using the loo does that mean, after talking on my cell, that I'd need to disinfect it too? Will a company soon come out with a line of layered phone covers one could just peel away after an encounter of the bathroom kind? Only time will tell...
