Going really local for a Christmas tree
Five blocks from our house is what I'd call going local. That's as far as Sarah and I had to go this year to snag a great looking Christmas tree. In the past we've gone to Rite Aid or a tree lot near the K-mart on 6th Ave. We were on our way to that very lot yesterday when a friend and KFnet tipster gave us a call noting GardenSphere's trees. A bonus that sealed the deal for our truckless family is that they offer free delivery. We drove over to see their selection and found a lovely noble fir. One of their employees had it over to our house within the half hour and before we knew it, and without a million needles to clean up inside my poor car, our house smelled of the holidays.
Where do you get your tree every year? Please share because I know there are plenty of people new to Tacoma that would love to know.

We usually get it from Tacoma Boys. Not "Local Boys" --that lot at K-mart, but up the street at Tacoma Boys itself. They have really nice trees.
This year we are going to get one from some obscure tree farm on Fox Island that Jason rents for airsoft games. (It doesn't even have a name, or I'd pass it on.)
If you want to cut your own in Tacoma, there's the Double Four Tree farm on 72nd. (Never tried them.) I was going to make up a list for Tacomamama, but I kind of burnt out on the holiday list making early this year. I guess there's always 2008!

For the past 8-9 years we have bought our tree from the same lot. It's located on the corner of 72nd and E. Mckinnley next to the car wash. An older gentleman owns it and has for years and now his Son has the business. The trees are always beautiful and fresh. There is another lot across the street from the Chevron and they own that one also. We have never been disappointed.

I went to Double Four every year as a kid. It is a great place to go, lots of memories. Once you take the kids there a store bought/precut tree just won't due. I am pretty sure you can go in November to pick out the perfect tree and then go back in December to cut it down.

I got mine last night in the Masonic Parking lot by the Proctor Post Office.

The "Local Boys" on 6th Ave (K-Mart lot) are very, very nice and the prices are reasonable. Third year buying from them and they remember us now. They gave us a discount (presumably since we're regulars) and even threw in a tree stand. As much as I love to shop at Tacoma Boys, the tree prices there are on the high side.

I used to go to the tree lot in the Goodwill parkinglot at 149th & Pacific until I used those two Macy's giftcards my mother sent one year to buy a thick artificial from the display area in front of the Tacoma Mall entrance for half-price on Dec 26. Being a traditionalist I sort of miss the smell and symbolism of murdering a tree, and a real one takes less time to get ready compared to fluffing branches on something that's been folded up in a box for a year, but I don't miss the tree sap on my hands or the daily watering, and my wife doesn't miss the allergic reactions at all. :)
