From controlled to frantic
The schedule today was to journey up to the South Center area with my parents to see some appliances they want to use in their kitchen and to be visited by Matt to probe the depths of a hard drive from our old web server in search of file treasure! Yeah, so I did that and more.
First the appliances with the parents. They picked me up here around 10am and headed up the road to Albert Lee Appliances in South Center. Although their welcome sign urged us to take a number to be guided by their sales reps we bypassed that process that went straight to the refrigerator they came to see. Apparently the selection of brands was impressive enough that mom and dad could show me a slew of the new appliances they'll be installing: from fridges with the freezer on bottom, to wine cooler-thingies, to seamless stove tops, to other stuff... Yeah, there's something for everybody and where there's a desire there's most certainly a product. After that fruitful stop we made it back to Tacoma and had lunch at Meconi's pub. The sub sandwich I ordered was on the order of nuclear since its hull (the bread) couldn't handle the payload (some serious pastrami). Too tasty for words so I just have to recommend you stop in. I'm not much of a much meat on my sandwich man and this blew that mantra out of the water!
After they dropped me off at home Matt came down with treasure hard drive in-tow so we could take a stab at doing a native ritual file recovery dance to coax some old journal entries back from the dead. My complete list isn't complete when there's a gap the size of 2003 in there. After a quick re-compile of the Gentoo kernel running our server we mounted the old drive and I quickly and successfully salvaged a boat load of entries. Now, to find the time to re-insert them into my site...
Anyway, the frantic part of this entry isn't really all that frantic but more to the tune of being unexpected. The phone rang more times this afternoon than it has this last month. One was a simple favor asked from Gavin for his mom. She was enchanted by the shade of yellow covering the walls in our great room and wanted to stop by to compare swatches. Just before her visit I mistook the ring of the doorbell for a potential tenant upstairs as Ms. Jensen when it was really a potential tenant for upstairs along with our landlord and her husband. Dunno, seemed like a bit of activity to me. Nevertheless, a good day.
