Crapdamncrap: Part II

After a Tuesday night re-install of Windows and nearly two days of copying backup files over a network at PLU back onto my computer I brought the box home tonight to continue the setup process. What awaited me? None other than a brand new problem! Yes, upon hooking all the wires up a little less than an hour ago I was greeted with the whir of what I thought to be a happy computer. Turns out a silent evil was hiding within. The machine boots up properly but, upon leaving its initial screens decides to do nothing when it should normally begin loading Windows. Nothing! No "couldn't find system disk" error. No blue screen of death. No blinking hard drive light. No keyboard control. No CTRL+ALT+DEL. Nothing! I have NO idea what it's doing and, frankly, I don't have time for this. I've already wasted too much time on a relatively smooth reinstall and am now faced with a phantom problem that is now getting in the way of some freelance projects and any other form of productivity here at home. "Just work on it this weekend," you say? I'm going to be in Vancouver this weekend so I'll be struggling with it tonight then again next week.

Man do I love what computers can do but I'll be darned if I don't just want to throw off the shackles of modern man this Fall evening and head into the woods to live off the land with no sign of the silicon monsters within 50 miles!

Update (2004-11-04 @ 7:55pm)
Oye! I'm on my computer now. It seemed that my BIOS wasn't properly detecting my brand of hard drive. I opened up my box, checked all the connections and made sure everything seemed properly seated. I must've snagged some wayward spirit of some long since passed hard drive on the way home but its voodoo hex on my BIOS was lifted and here I am. Hopefully life can go on and my man/machine relationship can continue to be a fruitful one.
