Crapdamncrap!

Just after 10:19am this morning some of the images sent out by our kitty webcam grew a strange purple mold. Further, I could no longer sign in to use my desktop computer remotely and I pretty much knew what to expect when I got home. Too bad I thought a restart would cure it. Waiting for me as my LCD powered up was a brilliant blue screen with pixelated white writing -- the dreaded blue screen of death! I'm on my laptop now and am about to embark on a great weekend time sink of troubleshooting, formatting and reinstalling everything on my computer. This may not sound like much but when you've got 7 years of email, 6 years of instant messages, and over 40,000 digital photos it can be a tense endeavour. Wish me luck and you can be sure to hear from me soon.

Update (2004-10-29 @ 7:39pm)
I'm currently running the windows memory diagnostic program and it's run five passes over my RAM and, so far, every test has failed! Now to hunt down some replacement sticks for the testing...

Update (2004-10-29 @ 8:31pm)
Then suddenly green appeared on the screen and the memory test began to sporadically succeed! I'm writing this entry from my desktop rather than my laptop as it booted into windows. I'm going to do a quick backup of the vitals then re-seat all the hardware in my machine. These phantom problems either stem from the recent lunar eclipse or from the pieces of my PC being jostled around in my car driving it to and from a recent weekend LAN party. More to come...
