Shattering wake-up call
Ever have one of those mornings where you wake up to the sound of a chandelier crashing to the floor? Yeah, we pretty much did this morning. I say "pretty much" because the incredibly loud and lengthy shattering sound we woke up to this morning could've easily been a chandelier or even a glass display case crashing to the floor. When breaking glass is the sound you wake up to a million things flash through your head. My mind must've skipped to some it's-an-earthquake worst scenario because I even had a brief flash of a thought wondering if Sarah's wedding dress was OK.
The real story was thankfully much more mundane than all of this. We had one of our wedding centerpieces re-purposed as a necklace hanger perched atop Sarah's dresser. It's what came crashing down to wake us up and the glass marbles within it amplified the agonizing sound of it hitting the ground. I got out of bed and walked bare foot across the room to turn the light on to see the marbly, glassy mess on the floor. I'm pretty sure since we have hardwood floors that we'll probably be finding marbles until the day we move out because they scattered! Not only that, but one of the copper wires holding some necklaces were halfway across the room as if drug there by something. Well, we could put the pieces of the event together with this bit of evidence and can easily finger Colby.
Sometimes on the weekends the kitties forget that we may not get up at the crack of dawn to service their hunger. This can sometimes prompt them to get a little testy on mornings we decide to sleep in. Sometimes they meow, sometimes they fight each other, sometimes they knock things down. Usually small, non-breakable things. Today, however, Colby was probably being a naughty kitty by getting up onto Sarah's dresser. This normally isn't a terrible crime but for the tendency of Colby to bat at any annoyance that dangles in front of him. His stomach empty he probably snagged a claw on a necklace on the tree setting the event in motion. Once he did so he probably could easily release the necklace because it would bend and follow where ever he moved his paw. He probably tried to get down and accidentally pulled the necklace, copper wire, and marble-filled vase down with him. He also likely scared the poo out of himself as this all happened all the while still dragging a couple necklaces and one of the copper strands halfway across the room where he ran to hide.
We don't hold a grudge with the guy and are just happy everyone was alright. I'm sure we probably won't put such a potentially messy item so close to kitty's reach next time around. After we cleaned everything up we proceeded to head back to sleep the best we could. I easily could've ran a marathon after everything happened though 'cause my heart certainly got pumping. May you sleep well and wake up gently tomorrow. G'night!
