Crown Bar details and facade
Charlie McManus' new spot on Sixth Ave. called Crown Bar has a new facade up where the former Gary's Steakout used to be.

McManus' Primo Grill blog has some deets about what will be on the menu:
Crown Bar will offer a full bar with hand mixed specialty cocktails, and an eclectic affordable wine list of wines by the glass and bottle.
The menu will offer "World Street Food" appetizers including currywurst; quesedillas; and chicken tikka, cajun shrimp, spicy beef and veggie kebabs. We will serve Gerry Stokesberry's organic chicken, buttermilk fried, and Thundering Hooves range fed beef in our burger and bratwurst in addition to trout, scallops and spice rubbed steaks. We will continue to source meats and produce from local farmers Terry Carkner and Cheryl Ouelette
Desserts will be made in house and will be anchored by apple pie and chocolate cake.
Sounds like tasty stuff! They're slated to open in early October. Their hours will from Tuesday through Sunday, opening at 5pm and closing at midnight Tuesday through Thursday, 1am Friday and Saturday, and 11pm Sunday nights.

Very cool. Charlie will take the place up a notch or two from what it was.
The food looks to be good and not too expensive. I don't think there will be noise complaints about this place.
Here's good place for us to study to see how and why 6th Avenue "works" and other areas struggle. Perhaps a project for a UWT Urban Planning student.

I can't wait to check it out! I hope they get rid of the dark tint windows! Same goes for the Chinese restaurant up the street.
People attract people and if people can't see inside, then you better have a better way to attract people!

Is that a squash or zucchini? Our zucchini are getting ripe and they are wonderful stuffed with rice, sausage and tomatoes. All I know to do with squash is slice and steam...lots of garlic, salt and pepper recommended.

Something interesting that you might keep in yur back pocket:
All the proceeds from the soft opening will go to the Culinary Arts program at Clover Park Technical College. The money will be (primarily) alloted for adults returning to college who might need some financial assistance.
If you can, please keep your eyes open for that day and come support the Culinary Arts program! (Of which I am currently enrolled)

That's great to know Julie -- and what a worthy cause. Cheers to Charlie and crew. Can't wait to try 'em out.

Went into Crown Bar in Tacoma last weekend for the 1st time. It was pretty nice, really busy and good food. I was just wondering who's the sexy asian cook? I saw him as he walked by into the kitchen area and tried to give the eye contact but he looked away. Is he married? What's his name? He seemed shy and quiet but really cute.

the crown bar is cool if you like spending way to much money for descent at best food. The staff are snobby and the drinks are weak..... the price's they are charging is a joke for street food ha ha veggie falafo are better and cheaper at its greek to me, better burger's at herfey's with so many other option's i just dont see why sumone would voluntarily subject themselves to overpriced food with such a rude wait staff
