Daily Index feature on Tacoma historic districts

Tomorrow's edition of the Index includes a lengthy feature on Tacoma's historic districts. Whitman residents Pat McGregor and Dave Stafursky are leading an effort to seek historic district designation for their neighborhood. McGregor provided an update on the plan to members of City Council's neighborhoods and housing committee last month, and the pair invited me on a walking tour of their neighborhood last week. Their idea sparked an interest in looking a little deeper into the issue of historic districts -- How are they created? How many are there in Tacoma? What are the challenges of creating historic districts? Where have historic districts succeeded in Tacoma? Etc.
