So, yeah, about that server...
It's dead. Remember my call to ask folks reading this site whether or not to engage in a fund drive to help save our server? Yeah, well, there's no saving it now! Today marked the official demise of it for, after a few crashes, its pangs of life ceased and I pronounced it dead. So what did I do on a gorgeous summer Saturday here in the Puget Sound? Sat in front of a screen and rebuilt a temporary server. Configuration of all the numerous settings necessary to run a Linux-based server can take ages and today was certainly no exception. I found myself uncharacteristically up until 2:30am trying as I might to get things operational again. I got a basic web server back up and running and restored most files and databases therein but, man, was I bushed. So, yeah, judging by the overwhelming respose (1, thanks Sherry!) to my query, I probably won't have a fund raising drive but will purchase a new server out-of-pocket, built it, then charge users (friends and family alike) a nominal annual fee to help keep it in tip-top hardware shape. No more Frankensteining it for me. Only shiny, new hardware will do.
