Luzon Building and Marine Center moving forward
Not in the same building, however. A couple articles in the News Tribune this morning covering some oft wondered about projects.
New life for Luzon Building
This very Ghostbuster's headquarters-esque building downtown will start a new life next fall as "a mixed-use apartment and retail structure". Work will begin late this month on restoring one of Tacoma's historic structures. I will, however, miss the butterfly bushes growing from the fringes of this currently sad building. Maybe the owner/architect/developer will pay homage with some planters on the upper floors or perhaps a green roof?
Marine center moves forward
The area may finally get a bit of science with a new marine laboratory and research facility. A deal is in the works with "an agreement in principle" on the table. The center would be built along the Thea Foss just north of the east end of the Murray Morgan / 11th Street Bridge. Construction may begin within the next 12 months.

Nice pictures Kevin. However, there are some shots of the trees growing out of the side of the building that could be good as well.

Whilst on the subject of plants growing out of the sides of buildings, has anybody noticed the trees growing out of the bricks on the old Tacoma city hall? it is rad.

Perhaps that could be a new photography series.

I do have some shots of foliage growing from the Luzon building -- even some shots of the butterfly bushes in bloom. I'll post 'em after work tonight.
There's also some greenery growing from a building just across from the courthouse I noticed when walking around last year during jury duty. It's the building on the SE corner of 9th and Tacoma.
Cool, I've got taking photos of grit in the industrial area and now urban examples of life taking hold for possible photo outings. Guess I should schedule these, huh?
