Downtown development town hall meeting Oct. 3
Pierce County Councilmember Timothy Farrell has organized a town hall meeting on downtown Tacoma development. Panelists will include City Council members, City and county economic development staff, and representatives from local development firms. From an email:
I’ve schedule the next town hall meeting for Wednesday, October 3, 2007, from 6 to 7 p.m. We’ve assembled a great group of panelist that includes Tacoma City Councilmember Rick Talbert and Jake Fey, as well as City of Tacoma and Pierce County economic development staff. We are also fortunate that local developers Ken Abott and Trevin Anderson will be joining us.
It will be informal and interactive and allow for discussion about present and future development projects in central Tacoma.
The discussion will be taking place at the 505 Broadway Showroom [ map ]. Could be a great event for voicing concerns and learning the various issues facing all involved.

The showroom itself is not at 505 Broadway. It is located at 711 St. Helens. The sign is clearly visible from the street. Wouldn't want anyone to get confused and think the meeting was at the construction site.

Ah, good call. Councilmember Farrell's email said it was at 5th and Market which doesn't exist if I'm not mistaken. Should be updated now. Cheers!

Tim Ferrell is our urbanist on the county council. Go Tim.
As for other developers in Tacoma, take a look at 505 Broadway as an example for implementation of good urban design. One of the best projects in the last 40 years in Tacoma IMO.
1) Built to the edge of the property. Parking is underground and on the street (curb).
2) Retail on the first floor spilling out on the street.
3) Lots of glass and windows facing the street connecting the building with the pedestrians on the sidewalk rest of the area.
4) Housing density located near the urban core of downtown.
5) Use of high quality art (hopefully the lions turn out)
6) Roof gardens on all units with 2 feet of topsoil (just kidding).
