Eagles building demolition prep
Just got a quick cell pic from KFnet friend Erik. Looks like demo is right around the corner from the Eagle's Lodge.

Boy, if I didn't have, like, a job I'd totally be out there in a lawn chair all day watching that. Despite any promise that building might have had, it'll be a chance for a new beginning for that corner of town.
Thanks Erik!

I have been told there will be no savings of the facade.
As much as I like historical buildings, the blight factor in this area is so high it almost makes one want to jump in the demolition equipment and smash away.
Perhaps the city needs to require building owners to maintain their roofs of their buildings so this does not happen to more of our buildings. We only have so may large historical buildings like this.
By the way, do you think this sort of "loss" was insured?

I don't even know who owned the thing to begin with. Passing by this morning, Sarah remarked, "I'll take that building of your hands for a penny." My bet is the owner would take it.

A man named Eric Cederstrand owns this building, from what I've heard he was not happy.

Why?

I suppose it's a really hard lesson to learn for any prospector that owns old buildings like this around town. Hopefully others will take heed and try and fix things up a bit before selling it for a quick buck.

I believe Cederstrand is a commercial real estate developer, for what it's worth, and has actually been involved in quite a few rehabs of old buildings. Two offhand I know of are the old TAM building and the Payless Building on Broadway.
I'm assuming if he is "upset" about anything it has to do with the fact that he was selling the building as a likely teardown. Now he has to pay for the demolition...

The demolition has officially started today. I dropped by the site before work, talked to some other photographers, and shot a bunch which are materializing in my Flickr stream.

Thanks Mushroom -- saw your pics. Love the one of that shelf at a strange angle.
