Class again
For the first time since the end of Spring semester last year I was sitting in class. My job is a full-time committment that I began last August. Because of this I opted out of taking any sort of class besides jazz choir so I could settle into a routine at the office (that's still weird to say). Seeing how I'm still and undergrad, however, the day would come that I would have to return towards that progression generally flowing from freshman to senior. With this job I'll slowly finish my degree because I'm only allowing myself to take one class at a time. It's a balance that one day of class can't quite reveal but I'm sure I'll feel fine in structural geology. It is, unfortunately, taught in the same windowless room that I've grown accustomed to as a Geosciences major at PLU. I also consider the professor professing to us a treat that has also repeated nearly as many times as I've been in room 113.
Hopefully my sarcasm is noticable because I simply don't benefit much at all from this profs classes. I don't blame any of my lack of geologic knowledge on him as I should be able to push above such things and just get the learning done. But I think a teach who knows how to communicate to and listen to students can only aid the ambitions of students enrolled in one of their classes. This will not be the case (as apparent from one class session) so I've taken to using Sarah's old laptop computer to jot down my class notes. I'm counting on using a tool I'm very familiar with to help spice up the classroom for me. It actually seems to make note-taking in his class easier because (and I know any science student can probably sympathize with me on this) if the professor decides to take up the entire whiteboard in a non-linear fashion I can actually return to any previous section in my notes and insert! Can't do that with a pen and paper. Once it's down there, it's down.
Anyway, class is in and I'm in it. The notes from my Spring 2001 Structural Geology class will be made available to anyone who wants them here on my website under the Misc section. Enjoy!
