Fear and lies: It's the American Way!
If John Kerry is truly conceding this election one thing that remains is that any challenges to votes or confirmation of vote counts in any state still need to take place. Unlike in 2000, no one should have to bend over and take it in the rear when it comes to their voting rights being met completely this time around. Kerry has a right to determine whether or not he's still a candidate but the votes must be properly scrutinized in an attempt to instill confidence in the process.
Once all the numbers are in I'll simply be pleased if the office of the president isn't decided by the Supreme Court or House. There's a certain realization that needs to take place for me that this country simply prefers fear and lies. That's what voting is all about. If there's one way for a country to let its voice be heard and its values pronounced to the world it's through voting. This election simply solidifies the idea that we're a bunch of spoiled freakin' brats that will stop at nothing to get their way. Bullies on the playground seem to do OK as do kids who lie about raiding the cookie jar. What happens when a kid does this sort of thing and isn't punished? They never learn and grow up valuing the same fear and lies.
Since our country can be considered a mere child when compared to others it's plain to see that we're that bully of a kid who'll stop at nothing to get his way. Likewise, unless someone decides to punish us (through voting or other acts) we'll simply keep doing what we're doing because we don't know any better. It's a sad day to think that the rest of the world will now likely just write us off as such a child and the rift of maturity between nations will stagnate or grow further. But, if that's what "America" wants...
I, however, have a plan to unite the U.S. with the rest of the world. Aliens! Yup, we're just one tier behind where we need to be when it comes to awareness. 9/11 united our country in a horrible way so to unite our country with the rest of the world we need something bigger to come along and threaten us. Aliens! Once united we can take some tips from Independence Day and War of the Worlds and kick their ass 'til we rule the local cluster of galaxies. Either that or split off here in the Northwest and form an accepting country of our own. Viva Cascadia!

I feel the fear and the loathing coming on ...
Take Chicago with you. The only solace I can take from this pisser of an election is that my current home state voted firmly democratic (even the dead people). I am so despondent over this current state of affairs that I have been unable (or unwilling) to accomplish even a little bit of productive work today. Instead I have spent my time googling people from high school which is how I got here. Send me an e-mail and let me know what is up with you. I'll do the same.

I agree it was a depressing day, but John Kerry wrote a heart melting letter to moveon.org. It made me feel a little better but still can't imagine 4 more years of the village idiot in the White House. I do think it was a remarkable effort on the part of the intelligent half of the country to challenge the king of fear and lies.

Amen to that! We'll let him push his luck and pump up the country's deficit to the point of breaking then we'll have some more sway when trying to prove to the rest of America "See? We told you so!" ;)

DId you guys see the front page of the Independent on wednesday? Let us just say that over here the outlook is as bleak as it, clearly, is at home. And while i didn't use Google to find you Kevin, i must say i have recently felt the urge to contact old friends i haven't seen for awile to comiserate.
My Scottish colleagues all want to know my opinion on the election; i don't even want to talk about it. Mandate my ass.

I didn't catch that front page. Do you happen to have an address you could share with us? Matt Turner is heading to Canada for film/art school in a couple months and I have to say that, although I'd love to stick around and fight for democracy and open-mindedness it's going to be such an uphill battle until something comes along to truly open people's eyes that there's more to life than religion and gay marriage. I honestly believe that if more people had the ability to travel abroad in their lives this would be a completely different country. Will you see any such plans in a Bush education plan? Never. They have us right where they want us: in crappy schools that will only help to draw a wider rift between the "have's" and the "have not's". Oye.
Did you see that Court wrote me above? Man, we should ban together and setup a high school friends blog or something. We're all over the place and it would be fascinating to share our thoughts and pose interesting issues for others to read and comment on.
Anyone think if a catchy name/domain name? How about LiberalAlumni.com or .net? ;)
