Fininshed Half-Life 2, now back to Half-Life 1
Tonight I finished playing through the single player of Valve's Half-Life 2. Since purchasing it just before our wedding in January I've spent random hours whiddling away at the game's plot and puzzles to wind up actually finishing it! The sequences that followed our hero Gordan Freeman through the game were well done and built up nicely to a somewhat ho-hum ending. I'm not sure I appreciate the creators leaving the doors so obviously open to another sequel but I guess I can't blame them. Now I can spend some time going back to play the first installment of Gordon's adventures. I never quite go to the end of that one mainly because there's a point when you hop over to some alien dimension where physics take a vacation and you have to hop, skip, jump, and dodge your way between monsters and floatly little islands floating in the middle of no where. Call me A.D.H.D, but I'm not really terribly attached to finishing video or computer games. Even since the days of Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo, I never really enjoyed being unfairly challenged in a game when it comes to a point where the programmers figure "Hell, let's just throw everything we've got at him all at once ," to test my patience more than my skill. I guess I could attribute this attitude to something inside me that has problems with authority or structure or some crap therein but I'm not going to. These are just games for goodness sake and if things aren't going my way, I'll just quit. Yeah, that's the winning, er, giving up spirit!
