Flashbacks in 3D

This morning I went on a mission back into my past that was filled with computer animation and model building. Where did this urge emerge from? Last night I was combing through old website files when I stumbled upon old pages that housed my collection of 3D animation and artwork. Inspired, I dug through a box or two in the basement and un-earthed a pile of old floppy disks. After tossing aside various driver disks for a Sound Blaster 16 and the failed Microsoft Space Simulator (because I wanted to fly to Mars in real time!) I found the treasure I saught. TrueSpace 2 disks. This program saw my use of many hours upon hours a day or creating whatever came to mind via wireframes and textures. One scene in particular that I wanted to revisit was that of the central complex of the ancient Aztec capitol of Tenochtitlan. Using artist concepts and some facts I pieced together what I thought was an accurate skeleton of this majestic city. I also thought of this scene after taking in a talk at a conference I recently attended in which some students had reconstructed the Parthenon in a 3D game environment for interactive exploration. I mentioned to them my Aztec recreation and that I'd let them know when I resurrect it. Without trying to kindle yet another hobby or project, I'll likely go no further back into the world of 3D than taking that Aztec city and creating a game map that my friends and I can compete on. I might also possibily pass it along to the students working on that project.
