Fly me to the Moon
I can just hear Old Blue Eyes singing that chart now. And, if he'd ever seen what I saw tonight, I'm sure he'd have truly meant it. Today was a very normal day but tonight was incredible. Dr. Leake and I took advantage of this clear night and went up atop Nevin's Hall to the observatory. Our first target was the Moon and I was successful in getting my best astronomical shots yet.
Other targets tonight for our small and light pollution hindered night were Venus, Mars, and a double star system called Albireo. Venus is an obvious half-phase is obviously tinted by chromatic abberation from the scope. The image of Mars turned out such that one can barely make our variations in brightness at the top and the middle-right on the planet. And, unfortunatly the image of Albireo is little more than two slightly different colored pixels near one another. At any rate, my little digital camera jury-rigged up to the eyepiece did really well tonight.
This is just play time. Soon we'll break out the big guns — the CDD camera. Stay tuned...
